It is not our intention to impose complicated regulations on people who want to trade with us, but we do have a few sensible conditions to assist us all and we would ask that you carefully read this page and bear the contents in mind.

TRYING ONE OF OUR HORSES

We reserve the right not to allow you to ride one of our horses or to request you dismount as we see fit. All of our horses are open to any trial on the premises, but we do not tolerate strangers abusing our horses. We may at first allow you to ride on a lunge only as we do not know your riding abilities so please don't be offended (this particularly applies to children).

If you don't like to be watched when trying a horse, please say so. It's perfectly acceptable for us to allow people time on their own to assess one of our horses.

NOVICE BUYERS

If you are a novice buyer, please bring along an experienced person with you to view the horse. It is unfair to expect us to be able to assess your riding ability after seeing you ride one of our horses for a few minutes. Your Instructor, or even a knowledgable friend would be better placed than us to be able to ascertain whether or not a particular horse is suitable for you.

BUYING A HORSE FROM US

We recommend that you try the horse in whatever way is important to you. It is essential that buyers satisfy themselves that the horse is exactly what they require prior to sale and instructors, advisors, trainers & vets are therefore very welcome to attend all viewings.

DEPOSITS

Any horse may be secured by a deposit of 10% of the selling price. No horse will be held without a deposit having been paid. Please remember that once a deposit has been paid, the horse will be removed from sale and deposits are non-refundable if you later change your mind. However, if a horse should fail the vets examination, any deposit paid will be returned in full.

SELLING A HORSE TO US

We understand how difficult it is to part with a much loved animal and we will endeavour to find every horse an appropriate long-term home. In the event that a horse turns out to be unsuitable for a private home, we have ultimate discretion to sell on as we see fit.

We will pay you cash upon collection of the horse which must be accompanied by the correct passportation. If you wish to remain in contact with future owners it is recommended that you include with the passport a brief letter about the horse which contains your contact details. No responsibility can be taken for remaining in touch with horses without such a document.

BREAKING & SCHOOLING

All dates for leaving horses must be previously agreed prior to delivery.

It is recommended that all animals be insured prior to travelling to Pocket Nook Farm and the insurer notified. Young horses in particular can be unpredictable, and whilst every care is taken to eliminate or minimise risk, horses are accepted ultimately at the risk and responsibility of the owner and no liability for injury or loss will be taken. You may be required to sign a disclaimer stating that such risk is accepted by you.

In the event that the horse requires the vet or farrier, this should be paid by cash in advance and will be passed on by us.

Payment may be made in cash when the horse is taken or by cheque 4 working days beforehand. No animal will be taken from the premises unless funds have cleared.

The above does not affect your statutory rights.
